About Medical Massage Therapy

Osteopath at Work

As one of the leading medical massage therapy clinics in the Sacramento area, we attribute our reputation to the thoughtfully customized patient care approach we’ve developed throughout the years. We believe that all of our customers deserve to live pain-free, and we are committed to helping them reach that goal with affordable and effective pain management.

We believe we are the best deal in town.

Our therapists start their careers in neuromuscular therapy with over 1,350 hours of training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, injury assessment, and several modalities of massage therapy, with a concentration on trigger point therapy (also known as neuromuscular therapy or medical massage therapy).

Our approach to massage therapy integrates Eastern and Western techniques, which results in customized bodywork that meets the client's physiological and psychological needs in each session. Our work incorporates myofascial release, acupressure, and soothing Swedish massage therapy, along with many other modalities.

In particular, neuromuscular therapy focuses on the published works of Janet Travell, M.D. and David Simons, M.D. “Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual”. Drs. Travell and Simons collected hundreds of studies on muscular issues and began publishing their methods 50 years ago. They are widely recognized as the leading authority on treating muscle pain and dysfunction.

Trigger Points Explained

Trigger points are hypersensitive knots in taut bands of muscle.  A trigger point forms where a muscle has contracted to the point that adequate blood flow is no longer reaching its muscle cells. Since it takes more energy for a muscle cell to release than to stay contracted, the cells will remain contracted until circulation increases to the area. This constant state of tension leads to chronic pain, reduction in range of motion and muscle function, and impaired mobility.

Trigger points are microscopic, and they develop in group; by the time a therapist can feel them, there are thousands of them in one place (generally at the neuromuscular junction). The science behind neuromuscular therapy is simple. Massage therapy increases circulation; therefore, as focused pressure is applied to an area where the muscle is held in contraction, blood flow returns to the area with essential nutrients for muscle function, and the muscle releases. Once released, the tension and associated pain will subside significantly, and in most cases, completely.

Medical Massage Therapy: Your Partner in Innovative Pain Management

Massage therapy is recognized by healthcare professionals and covered by insurance plans worldwide. It is an affordable alternative to opiates and other pain medication. The collaboration between you and your patient's massage therapist is invaluable; with the patient's consent, we share our files recording hours of hands-on interaction with your patients, resulting in better treatment outcomes. We accept your patient's insurance (and we do not accept tips), so there is continuity of care and payment among your patients' healthcare team. We have worked with doctors, surgeons, physical therapist, and chiropractors to successfully address our patients' pain.

"Integration of massage therapy into the acute care setting creates overall positive results in the patient's ability to deal with challenging physical and psychological aspects of their health condition. The study demonstrated not only significant reduction in pain. levels, but also the interrelatedness of pain, relaxation, sleep, emotions, recovery, and finally, the healing process."
